Notable Authors, Ministry Leaders to Visit Grace this November

Brent Mencarelli speaking in chapel

Grace College is pleased to host several notable speakers on campus in November, including Carolyn Custis James, Donna Freitas, and Jermaine Chaney. All Grace College chapels are free and open to the public. They take place on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings from 10:30 – 11:20 a.m. in the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center (MOCC), 610 Wooster Rd., Winona Lake.

“Chapel is an opportunity for Grace students and the community to broaden their understanding of how faith fits in to every area of their lives.  By inviting leaders in a variety of fields and causes to speak, we hope chapel makes a real difference in people’s lives,” said Brent Mencarelli, dean of chapel and community life at Grace.

Carolyn Custis James will speak in chapel on Nov. 8 – 9. James is an award-winning author of seven published books, an adjunct faculty member at Missio Seminary, and the founder and president of Synergy Women’s Network, Inc., a national network of women in mission and ministry leadership. Her speaking and writing ministry is focused on the deep needs of God’s people living in a postmodern world.

Donna Freitas will speak on Nov. 15 – 16. Freitas is a fiction and non-fiction author and lecturer at universities across the country, including Pepperdine, Harvard, and Yale. She followed up her 2008 bestseller, “Sex and the Soul: Juggling Sexuality, Spirituality, Romance and Religion on America’s College Campuses,” with “The Happiness Effect: How Social Media is Driving a Generation to Appear Perfect at Any Cost” in 2017. The book explores how social media is related to our ideas of self, meaning, and navigating relationships in college.

Jermaine Chaney

Jermaine Chaney will speak in chapel on Nov. 29. Chaney is the special adviser to the president for minority student affairs at Grace College and the president and chief operating officer of Chaney Financial Group. In addition to playing for the Indianapolis Colts during the 1999 season, Chaney served many years on the Indiana University Big 10 Advisory Committee.
