The Teacher as Moral Practitioner
In the School of Education, we embrace the ideology that “Teaching must be characterized as a career deeply influenced by moral practice” (Fenstermacher, in Goodlad, et. al). That’s why we are deeply concerned about instilling the principles of character, competence, and service into our future teachers. Here’s the way we do it:
Every day in the classroom, teachers are faced with decisions of deliberation and choice. Our courses engage in conversation with this in mind. What is the role of a teacher’s character and how does it affect students?
We pride ourselves in being excellent. We require more than 100 hours of classroom experience starting as soon as your first semester—and that’s prior to a full semester of student teaching! We do everything in our control to ensure you graduate a top-notch candidate.
Teachers must have a spirit of community and a willingness to serve. We want you to leave inspired, approaching your career with an eagerness to love others and glorify God.

Education Major Accreditation
The School of Education is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and is approved by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and the Indiana Department of Education. Candidates have the opportunity to participate in an alternative student teaching placement following their Indiana placement. These alternative placements include inner-city settings, other countries and various cross-cultural sites.
Council for Exceptional Children
Grace College is nationally recognized by the Council for Exceptional Children. Students at Grace College have the opportunity to join this professional organization dedicated to advancing the success of children with exceptionalities through advocacy, standards, and professional development.
